People who don’t believe in fairy tales have obviously never heard of Lake Bled. With just one look you get the impression of myths, magic, royalty and other surreal ideas. Just head towards the Julian Alps, northwest of Slovenia to experience a popular and otherworldly tour.
One of the most fascinating sight in this tourist destination is the small and peaceful island in the middle of Lake Bled called Bled Island. At first sight, that island might seem a little lonely and sad, but it actually isn’t. A church was built during the end of the 17th century, it was dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and it had Gothic frescos and Baroque equipment. Presently, weddings can be held here and it happens quite regularly. It’s even considered good luck for the groom if he carries the bride all the way up through the 98 stone steps that leads to the top.
No fairy tale is complete without a castle and that’s where Bled Castle comes in. Standing proudly on a precipice above Bled city, it overlooks Lake Bled. You get to appreciate the real beauty of a fairy tale lake through a castle, and that’s something. Just so you know, there’s a nearby city called Bled. It might only be a simple city, but it’s also one of the top tourist destination in Slovenia.
Surprisingly the lake isn’t only famous for its enchanting appearance, it’s also famous among rowers. The lakes condition is just perfect for hosting the sport, that’s why it also hosted the World Rowing Championships during 1966, 1979, 1989 and 2011.
